Would it have been any worse, if he had said it 4x?
BTW, German has a weird association with repeating yes, or no:
Nein: regular no
Nein, nein: more playful, or talking to a naughty child
Nein, nein, nein: an angry no, if not being in denyal about something (insert famous A.H. meme)
Ja: yes
Ja, ja: lick my A.
Ja, ja, ja: stop bothering me; I'm not even listening. (like skipping dialogue in a game)
yah know... I'm fairly certain I've seen/heard that in similar ways in various anime. Like, it's probably a common thing among languages but hearing a character say nai-nai, or no-no, typically when they are playfully dismissing a statement.
Interesting thing in Brazilian culture, Sim means "Yes" and Não means "No", if you are a girl depending on the place if someone asks you out Não becomes Yes and if you say any other thing like for example, "i need to call my friend", it means yes too, weird things
Back to the topic here repeating yes or no doenst happen and generally what happens is a reverberating cry if in anger almost like a single solid syllabe and if positive a whiny tearful tiny yes
this is strange yet certainly interesting
Ah, yes - I'm pretty sure it doesn't matter what you say, while you're being kidnapped.
I learned something new... I'll start using this in my everyday life.
Later when my wife asks me to wash the dishes...
"Nein... ... ...nein, nein."
Good luck. XD
And also it's Jojo reference!
remember, this is set in Kyoto, the OLD Capital City of Japan. it's a formal and antique Japanese formula for a discussion during which one party offers another party a yes/no choice. for example, ask a girl out. 'no'... keep negotiating with her you get a drawn out drawled 'noooo'. but if you slip up and use the wrong line of negotiation, you get a firm and unyielding 'no'. you're done for, call it quits and move on with your day.
ol man got an immediate and recognizably hard trio of 'no' one right after another. that means those negotiations fell through before the old man could make any new inroads to convince the kid. kid basically walked in there loaded for bear but hiding it all behind a thin facade of manners, dress, and genuine concern to make like he was friendly and merely wanted a genial permission (that the kid didn't technically need really) to operate in Kyoto from this old man.
that 'bird of prey' line is a quote from an old Japanese folk-saying. "A bird of prey hides its talons." it means that smart folks don't wave their weapons, cash, abilities, intellect, or subordinates around like a big signal flag showing off 'i am a big shot!'. it told the kid that the old man was going to act all nice nice till it was time, and then the shit would hit the fan.
This anime is too underrated.
Agreed. I'm really enjoying it. The stoic/berserker almost MC is good shit.
So true from episode 1 till now somehow made me think of some parts of Inuyasha and Yu Yu Hakusho as the fighting and story are going so well.
Damn I was getting Inuyasha vibes too. Thought I was alone
A good anime that one was and Yu Yu Hakusho also.
New girl seems like a yandere. Botan might have some competition.
Awesome episode and awesome MC!
Tsubaki looking like a menace to society. Im into that.

When cornered, time to show some ABS!
Not the fanservice I was expecting but I'm not complaining.
Cool fight scene.
dude calm down one is enough :D
Marek okay.
How many willing to bet that woman with the umbrella was the tsukumogami who killed his brother and sister?
Wasn't the spirit killing them appearing male? Maybe my memory is off.
Anyway, I got the feeling that it wasn't a freak accident, but a hit...
It was a silhouette, and a very inconspicuous looking one at that. But the hair sort of matches.
It could very well be, my memory isn't the best either, I kinda remember a silhouette that didn't look much human and since it was a paper umbrella tsukumogami I though it could be her
Did they ever actually show the human form? I don't recall that, but could be wrong.
Well as far as i remember they didn't but it still would be weird if the thing that killed MC's brother and sister would suddenly have a female human form. ^^
Maybe it can gender swap. There has been quite a bit of that this season after all.
I mean i guess that could be. But considering what had happened with MC's sister and brother you would think that his family keep taps on it right? Yet here it is just casually strolling around.
Damn feels like Im watching an 90's anime ! I so Hyped with this anime! Good fight scenes and good story line!
I'm so glad he is not some good willing boi,but rather turns battle ready when fought against the the tsukumogami
Hyoma be like dont try that shit around here,you...will..be...clapped.
woah, the fight scene on tis anime actually superb, simple and not flashy but still delivers it perfectly
a chaotic mc with loads of hate..... whats not to like
well no wonder he fits in so well...he's also a monster lol
22:13 smoll Boton is precious.
This show honestly doesn’t disappoint in the action aspect! :3

Yo pink haired girl is my type
This is really underrated.
always see this show as average until last week and now its building up somewhat of a shonen w factions and other powerful beings
the vibe reminds me of norogami but better
New girl looks like a 90's shoujo protagonist
My crush when I was young... Chocolate Misu from Bakuretsu Hunters.
She should wear suspenders... and nothing else!
